Detours and Alerts

Starting as early as Wednesday, Sept. 23, crews will begin gopher tortoise relocation as part of the South Hillsborough Pipeline project. This work will take place in the conservation area just east of Watercolor Drive, Quintessa Lane and Lambert Bridge Lane, with crews working from Fishhawk Boulevard south toward Boyette Road.

For safety, the paved trail between Watercolor Drive and the designated work area will be temporarily closed during construction. This trail will remain closed until work in the area is complete and it has been safely restored for pedestrian use.

All gopher tortoises within the construction corridor will be safely relocated by a state-certified professional prior to the start of construction activities. The tortoises will be moved outside of the project’s temporary and permanent construction easements to protect them during construction. 

After the tortoises have been relocated or excluded from the work area, crews will begin clearing the easements for open-trench pipeline construction. They will trim tree canopies and remove trees and shrubs to make space for heavy machinery. All tree work will take place under the guidance of a certified arborist.

Work will take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is expected to last approximately three to four weeks, barring unforeseen circumstances.
